Quando accompagnava sua madre alla fiera nei paesi vicini, scrutava con passione i saltimbanchi e i funamboli per scoprire i loro segreti e imitarli. Tornato a casa, si esercitava ; poi strabiliava i compaesani con le sue esibizioni di equilibrista e di prestigiatore.; IT John had the talents of an acrobat and a magician, and he enjoyed a good show. When he went with his mother to the neighbouring fairs he would pay great attention to the acrobats and the tight-rope walkers so as to discover their secrets and then imitate them. When he got back home, he would practise hard, and would then amaze the country folk with his displays of balancing and magic.
